Because nurses need conceptual understanding of nursing process as well as the practical ability to plan and implement nursing care, this text balances conceptual and practical aspects. CONTENT The nursing process provides a basic framework within which nurses apply the unique combination of knowledge, skills, and caring that constitute the art and science of nursing. Client implies that nurses have independent functions, are increasingly accountable to individuals rather than institutions, and are not setting-bound; it also stresses that people are increasingly active in managing their own healthcare. On the other hand, most nursing still does occur in hospitals, and with ill people who are in a dependent state. Furthermore, most nurses are paid by an employing health agency, rather than directly by a client. In these situations, the term patient seems more accurate. I use a similar approach for denoting gender. I acknowledge and welcome the presence of men in nursing and, further, realize that patients are both men and women. However, terms like s/he and she/he are artificial and awkward to read, so I do not use them. Both nurses and patients are arbitrarily assigned gender and referred to either as he or she. In this text I often speak to the reader as "you" instead of "the nurse" or "the student:" For one thing, this suits my informal nature. Essential book

The book on the nursing process is exceptionally well written. A nurse at any stage of his/her career will benefit from reading more about the nursing process. The book is very "readable" for a beginning student to someone who has been in field a long time. I would also recommend this book for those who are teaching the nursing process, it will add to your understanding and ability to teach it to others. Each stage of the nursing process is covered and how to use the information if you are a student or a practicing nurse.

Quick and painless process.

Preface: I bought this book for nursing school, and it was really nice to be able to get it here for 9 bucks instead of 109 at my school.

Pros: It was new and still in it's wrapping. It was exactly as advertised. It was very cheap.

Cons: Not a single one...can I complain about my instructor instead? ;)

Service: It was shipped/received on time. It was packaged appropriately. No further service was needed, so I have no idea about customer service, which is exactly how I like it.

Overall: I give this product 5 stars for being exactly as advertised, and shipped on-time. I would buy it again if the need arose, and I recommend it to anyone who needs/wants this textbook.

Thoughts: I always buy one edition behind whatever the most recent one is. It's the same information, just rearranged, and quite seriously 5-10 times cheaper. The exception is any kind of a work-book, as you will need to have the same problems and page numbers as the instructor.

Difficult to navigate

I am using the Kindle app on my iPad to view this book and find it extremely difficult to navigate. There are no page numbers or thumbnails of pages to use. When my instructor says to turn to a specific page I cannot find it. This is frustrating.

A Fascinating Story of Love and Determination

This romance novel is set against the backdrop of pre-civil war times in Louisiana. As such, the love story is beset by the aura of danger for both the white plantation owner's daughter and the black slave who was seduced by her. This black novelist takes us into to the psyche of the Southern white heroine who is both an abolitionist and a women's rights activist. It is rich in historical narrative as well as insight into the relationships among women both black and white. The mysteries surrounding the ancestors of the founders of the first black United Methodist Church in Mansfield are at the core of this historical journey. For those of us with roots in this little country town, it answers many questions. Traditional romance novels are popular because the heroine always wins. But in this novel, the "victory" is an unexpected twist that will keep you engaged until the last page is turned.

Upper level text with a wide array of countries

This book stands apart from the other comparative pol. books because of its lengthy introductory unit (almost 150 pages in 7 chapters). Some of it is very deep analytical material which is appropriate for very advanced students, but most high school readers will die of confusion if boredom doesn't finish them off first.
For the country chapters, they are very thorough, and each is 40-50 chapters, quite a lot of material. It's pretty dense, too. One good thing is that the book includes the usual "big" ones (G.B., France, Russia, China) as well as Germany and Mexico, but also India, Nigeria, Brazil, and Egypt, giving much material for the often overlooked less-developed countries.

What can I say? For the price I got it felt like a gift. I don't really like this book which of course just makes it even less justifiable to pay much much more for the latest edition. Even for a politics textbook you can live with older editions. I'm halfway through the course and when I needed to use the book it is 90% as useful as can be expected.

What it means to be Celtic

The Celts have had a long and complex journey, both through history and myth, and this entry in the excellent Very Short Introduction series is a great place to start tracing that journey. Some historians question whether 'Celtic' is even a meaningful or useful term. Is it a modern invention? Who were, or are, these people or peoples we call 'Celts'? Cunliffe warns at the outset that finding reliable answers will not be easy, then proceeds to make it as easy as possible.

He views the subject from various angles - linguistic, archeological, Classical (the Roman and Greek accounts), ethnological - and gradually builds a coherent picture. His bias reflects the current orthodoxy that cultural influence spreads without the mass migrations that used to be assumed -- ideas and customs spread, not necessarily people. He encourages us to take a view from the Atlantic, and see the Celts as European peoples who traded along that seaboard. Some readers might wish for more detailed maps -- the author or publisher seems to assume that you will know which rivers are the Marne, Danube, etc.

This is an authoritative and accurate work, although I did spot one surprising blunder: On page 137, the ceremony of All Souls is described as taking place on October 31, preceding All Saints. In fact it follows All Saints, on November 2.

Cunliffe's prose is very readable, except that he has a fondness for litotes ("It is not unreasonable to suppose..." "It is not unlikely that..."). This can get not unirritating after a while.

A great deal of misinformation surrounds Celticism. It has become a tool for propagandists and nationalists. There is a certain amount of healthy debunking in this book, but the Celts emerge alive and well. Before I read it, I thought I was of Celtic descent on my mother's side. After reading it, I still do, but now I have some idea of what that means. If you want to know about the Celts, then you need to choose your sources with care, because - as Cunliffe hints - there are many 'lunatic fringe' publications out there. This is a safe place to start.

Exceptional !

For someone who wants a quick and dirty introduction yet up to date book on the ancient Celts I cannot recommend a better book. Although it is quite a short book it is highly superior to books havigng the three times the number of pages this book contains.

Although one may sometimes shy away from short books on complex topics like the Celts take heart for by placing yourself in the hands of Barry Cunliffe you are putting yourself in the hands of a master.

A winner!

Based on scholarship - but...

Finally, an introduction to the Celts based on scholarship and not wishful thinking. Popular books make the Celts out to be either the greatest heroes or the worst villains of Europe. This intro relies on archeology, linguistics (philology) and historical sources to tease out who the Celts were (and even IF they were). Origins, culture, migrations, art, and movements are covered. Modern treatment of the Celts is also covered, and how a new mythology has grown up around them. This overview provides a departure point for interested students to begin their studies with some solid grounding.

The reason for 4 stars vs 5 is the lack of comment on genetic studies. The author is clearly aware of research in this field but makes no real mention of it. For example, I look at a distribution map of haplogroup R1b and I see it apparently mirroring the present day distribution of "Celts". But I also recognize my inexpert tendency to draw these conclusions may not be scientifically warrantied. I would love to have read the author's comments on genetic investigations, and recommendations for further study. Genetic studies have something to offer, but how does it overlap the other disciplines?

Otherwise, great little book. Highly recommended.

four and a half stars......a mature work

I have read the authors first Kriya Yoga about 2 years ago and found the content very good but the writing etc. lacked in my view. What i liked more than his first Kriya book was his Kriyayoga youtube channel. There he gives wise and selfempowering advice on various topics about being a kriya yogi. With this new book he brings this maturity into a book.
It is very readable as the writing has considerably improved and he has also become quite good in presenting his ideas in an easy accessible way. The style or energy of this book is very uplifting but also very mature, meaning it is about a self facilitated approach to spiritual growth and not believing some authority figure. As with real spiritual growth one has to go ones own way in a balanced as possilbe way and this book makes that quite clear. It also gives advices on how to do that more easily. But for this book to work fully it anticipates from the reader a certain level of maturity or one could have problems with that approach. It delivers no quick fix but shows guidelines on how to go the long pathless path.
He also describes in detail all 4 Levels of Kriya techniques that belong to the authors lineage as well as techniques for contemplation, yogic sleep and inquiry.
I think that a lot of people could benefit from this book especially serious Kriya studends and spiritual seekers.
The reason i give only four and a half stars is that i have different views/experiences on certain topics and so some conclusions the author gives do not resonate with me at all.
Beside that this book is one of the very good books about that topic. A great mix of technique, shared experiences and a good dose of wise guidelines!

A mature, no-nonsense approach to the Spiritual path!

This is easily one of the best books I've ever read. The author challenges many of the long held rigid beliefs and myths regarding Spirituality and meditation. Ryan Kurczak presents a no-nonsense approach to the Spiritual path that many seekers may not be familiar with. I highly recommend this book to anyone serious about progressing towards Spiritual enlightenment. If you are looking to read a fluffy, feel-good book that provides short cuts to enlightenment, this is not for you. If you are ready to dive into the depths of a Spiritually mature life and do the work, then I strongly suggest reading this book.

I really appreciate the integrity and honesty that is brought to the reader with this book. It is crucial to have such clarity when traveling this path. This is the perfect first and last for any and all serious meditation practitioners. The author is clearly someone who not only understands the material and it's depth, but someone who can communicate it and all its subtleties the same.

So much of modern spirituality and Self-study is superfluous, loaded, and without any kind of sturdy foundation to build upon. Not so here, my friend.

Kriya Yoga Vichara outlines and explains a realistic view on what it takes to practice, study, and endure what it is we call the spiritual path. Which is largely absent from most books discussing Kriya Yoga. The author also provides the tools in which to forge our own path. The only Path.

Ryan Kurczak does a great service for those who have what it takes to seek out the true depths of Self-realization, and does a great honor to his teachers by carrying on the true aspects of these teachings.
