A very decent primer on American Political Parties

Balanced, fact based and informative. The author covers a dry topic with insight and engaging descriptions of the formation of the political system in America.
I recommend this well written book to anyone with an interest in how the history of American politics has and continues to influence the current political landscape.

Excellent summary of US political parties

I was looking for a book which explained, at a high level, the history and ideologies of political parties during the 19th century and this book delivered. In my studies of the Civil War and events leading up to the war, I wanted to understand the Whigs, Free-Soil and other parties and this book painted a clear and understandable picture of these and many other parties.

Awesome for old and new fans

This book is amazing. To everyone who says you can get all this for free on the website: did you even read the book? Or buy it for that matter? I am a huge fan of the site, I check it every day, and I bought this book hoping for new material. I was not let down. There are so many new ones - it is great. Since he only updates his site like once a week, getting like 40 new emails I have never read was a huge treat. My new favorites are the one where he gets some moron to call like five different Pizza Huts, and the one where he is a Vietnam Veteran trying to tell war stories to five year olds. This book is absolutely hilarious. Sure, there are some emails that are on the site already, but he adds commentary and stories to them. Also, some of them are even longer than I remember them being. This book is pure hilarity. A great gift for anyone who isn't easily offended.

Above average, but not as good as the website

The author has taken prank emails to a very funny level. I first learned of his website around 2010/2011 timeframe and I remember spending a lot of time on it, reading each email exchange, and laughing my butt off. Updates to the site grew less frequent until, fast-forward to 2014, it hasn't been updated since June of 2013, and it shows no signs of life at all. As a result, I decided to pony up the cash for his book, reading that it contained "60% content that's not available on [...]." While that may be true, I have to say I'm disappointed for two reasons:
1. The amount of content is rather short. I realize it's not War & Peace, but I didn't imagine knocking it out in under an hour. Several emails are 1 page or less.
2. The quality of content declines as time goes on. In other words, the new stuff isn't as good as his older, original email messages.

I won't launch into a diatribe on whether or not these emails are real or not--that's moot to me, as I'm more interested on the degree to which I enjoyed the stories. But I will say this; if you're buying the book and have never read his site, you'll really like the book. If you're buying this book and you've been a regular visitor to his site, you'll have a mixed review, much like this.

great concept, bad pictures, so so explanations

I really had high hopes for this book because of how amazing other residents had said it was. I was really disappointed with the book. I am writing so other ob/gyn residents evaluate carefully if they want to spend over $200 in this book as opposed to other sources.

The concept of a book with so many pictures detailing procedures is great, i think we learn better with visual aids. Now the execution of the idea is horrible. Pictures are bad, they lack detail completely and there is no arrowing. The pictures look as if they had been taken with a low profile 20$ camera that you would give a 10 year old boy to take to his vacation trip. I dont even think that the person taking the pictures even srubbed in to be closer. I really think that a book like this deserves the highest detail and use of high end cameras with macro-zooms and anything else available to make the illustrations better. The drawings are good but not really anything special, not any better than just looking at Telinde's illustrations.

The text that accompanies the pictures isn't breathtaking either and the explanations for the surgeries are confusing oftentimes.

The new edition which I just got, includes a dvd with some guy doing dissection on a cadaver and talking about it, there are NO videos or animations of surgeries which disappoi.ted me even more!!

If you have 236$ laying around and you don't mind the money and just want to add it to your collection in your shelf get it. If you really want to spend your money wisely, I would first go to my hospital's library and look at procedures I am familiar with to see if it's really possible for me to learn the other ones from this book.

just as great as before

The book, with its excellent-quality pictures and straight-to-the-point texts, is just as good as it was in the last edition. I thought the major plus would be the DVD. I was disappointed with the video though for it is rather boring and the person narrating it is chewing gun the entire time which makes it very annoying to listen to it. Would still buy it again though. It is a must have to any obgyn resident.

Disturbing, humorously chilling, ultimately brilliant!

I first read, or tried to read, "In His Own Write" when I was 14, at boarding school in England. Tears rolled down my cheeks! It was impossible to read the stories out loud to any hapless listener without collapsing into hysteria. The book was already out of print then, 1973. An instant collector's item! Greatly coveted! Years later I came across paperbacks of both books, sadly, in the wake of JL's tragic death. They took pride of place in my library. I lost them, or somebody stole them, a few years ago and I miss them more than any other book that's similarly walked from my home, now in the USA. I cannot recommend these works highly enough to anyone who appreciates offbeat humour. 5 stars really aren't enough for material SO brilliant and SO unique. The man and his work were, quite simply, pure genius.

A Subtle Genius, In His Own Write...

Commemorating what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday, this reissue of his two forays into writing circa 1964 and '65 are a great way to celebrate the genius and memory of one of history's most celebrated men of the 20th century. Having both books in one edition is a definite plus (I still have an original 'In His Own Write' since I was a kid, but somewhere lost the second volume), and revisiting his writings that would later become the template for lyrics to such psychedelic classics as 'I Am The Walrus', 'Strawberry Fiends Forever', 'All You Need Is Love', 'Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite', 'Happiness Is A Warm Gun', 'Come Together' and other songs is a treat above all. Think Lewis Carroll as a rocker on acid in the 60's and you'll have a feel for these works. It's alternately witty, daft, funny, sarcastic, prosaic, confusing, oblique and brilliant. The drawings are a lark as well. If you didn't grow up with the Beatles, you probably won't find much pleasure in these pages, but if you did, it's like returning to OZ to see the Wizard. Long Live Lennon.

A lovely book, funny and everlasting.

A wonderful book that I have enjoyed since I purchased it back in the sixties. I quote the book often. The humor is priceless and will last forever. The world lost a gem, it's too bad he didn't live to write more than he did.

Love the Mindhunters series, but didn't love this book

I really like this author and her Mindhunters series, but this was not my favorite Mindhunters book. The narrative started out with a real bang, drew me into the story, but then did not deliver much in the way of action and suspense. The plot dragged at times, with a little too much boring police work and procedure details. Also, I agree with another reviewer's complaint that there were too many characters tossed into the mix of the plot, so much so, that I had to go back through the book to identify just who the 'bad guy' was after the reveal!
I liked both the main characters, but I felt the romance did not seem very well developed. The ending was a huge disappointment, almost as if the author had just run out of either time, ideas, or words! It was probably the worst ending I have ever read, and even if Ms Brant is setting readers up for a future sequel, she is such a talented author she could have done a much better job concluding this book.

I've always enjoyed the books in this series which blends suspense, CSI skills and a little romance perfectly.

No time is wasted throwing the reader right into the plot and keeps a grip on you to the very end. The location is the Upper Peninsula which is a forested region in Michigan bordering 3 of the Great Lakes and those forests are hiding a killer who likes to hunt the human variety of prey along with animals.

The leads in this one are Keira Saxon who was a Chicago homicide detective before returning home to care for her dying father who is the Sheriff. After her father is killed in what was suspected to be a animal attack she takes over her father term. Soon she gets a gruesome discovery on her doorstep which leads her to believe her father's death wasn't done by an animal and the killer also has a new victim. Keira wastes no time in calling The Mindhunters for help. Finn Carstens is who is sent to help Keira with the evidence of past and current victims. As the investigation moves along it becomes clear that the end game is Keira herself.

I've always enjoyed the books in this series which blends suspense, CSI skills and a little romance perfectly.

A Picturesque Town Has More Than A Few Surprises

I love the Mindhunters series, and this book kept me enthralled. The main female character is Keira...who agreed to be the interim sheriff when her father, the sheriff, died. She is strong, smart and so likable. Finn has been sent by Adam Raiker of Raiker Forensics to help Keira look into her father's death as well as help find out who is terrorizing her. He is a man of many talents: a medical degree, a forensic pathologist and an investigator. These two make a good pair. The men and women who work in the sheriff's office are loyal and hard working...and interesting to read about. Her best friend is a hoot. Finn requests a portable lab on wheels from Adam Raiker and is able to come up with quick results on a lot of the tests he performs. The gruesome killer's identity was a surprise to me, but once all the facts were uncovered...very believable. I wasn't quite ready to give this book up...wish it could have gone on about 20 more pages.
