2. The Old Testament Pentateuch from the John Wycliffe Bible of 1395. This was the first complete Bible ever translated into the English language. It was translated from St. Jerome’s early fifth century Latin Vulgate and was the foundation for the later reformation.

3. The Old Testament Pentateuch from the Douay Old Testament as revised by Bishop Richard Challoner in 1763. The Douay Old Testament first completed in 1610 and it’s subsequent revisions have remained the Old Testament for Catholic bibles to this day. This as well was a translation of St. Jerome’s Latin Vulgate.

4. The William Tyndale Pentateuch of 1530. This was the first translation of any portion of the Old Testament into the English language directly from the Hebrew Masoretic text.

5. The Old Testament Pentateuch from the Geneva Bible of 1560. This was the first Bible to break the chapters into individual numbered verses and was the first Bible brought to this country by the pilgrims. It remained the most popular Bible in England for over 100 years after the introduction of the King James.

6. The Old Testament Pentateuch from the King James Version of 1611. No comparison of Bible translations would be complete without including the venerable King James Version.

But this gendered violence is not an innate biological imperative of the human species. The anthropological evidence proves that our present culture of violence is not a genetic mandate. Men and women in other times and places have enacted gender and sexuality differently – demonstrating that our current relationship with gendered violence is cultural – not biological. We can redirect our culture. We – collectively – create it, and therefore, we can change our society. We can heal as individuals. Those who have been victimized can come to recognize that nothing in them caused their assailant to perpetrate. AND we can heal as a collectivity. We can learn to relate to each other differently. We can break our addiction to violence. Using a compelling mix of personal stories, pointed poetry, and the realities of social fact, "I Trusted You" guides the reader to grasp the magnitude of the problem, to understand the experience of sexual and interpersonal trauma, to recognize that the fault lies with the perpetrator (not the victim) of sexual or interpersonal violence, to see the importance of refusing to use sex and relationships to cause harm, and to conceive of different gendered interactions for our collective future. If you take a Criminal Justice course, this is the text you should hope the prof demands. It is truly the best out there. Yes, it's pricy - but worth every dollar.

To a certain extent this book is a recipe collection in that it describes weaknesses in Linux (calling attention to specific distributions where appropriate). The authors stop short of explicitly showing you how to wage most kinds of attacks, a reasonable thing to do from an ethical point of view even though the instructions can be found easily on the Internet. Rather than do that, they give step-by-step instructions on how to defend against the attacks they catalog. The point is not, "Here's precisely how to bring down a server by means of an ACK storm," but rather, "Here's how to defend against such problems." They do demonstrate plenty of weaknesses, though, as in their coverage of the conversation that goes back and forth between an FTP server and its client.

Refreshingly honest, thoroughly enlightening

Given the complexity of Linux systems, and the years spent hardening such systems against would-be intruders, it is amazing how a simple, clever idea can still translate into a full-blown security exploit.
I really enjoyed the format of the book. The authors don't waste time on security theories, or explaining what Linux is. They know the reader is already familiar with these, and wants to know, in concrete terms, how a hacker sees your server, and will systematically breach its security until they get root access. The authors waste no time in revealing the tools of the trade, and the security-conscious would do well to read this book from cover to cover. It is not enough to just apply patches, and turn off unnecessary services (and surprisingly few admins even do this right). One must fully understand the mindset of the hacker, and see the server from the outside.
I truly believe that no other book right now can deliver such honesty and such useful information on Linux security. If you hope to secure your servers or go into the security field, definitely read this book. You will not be sorry. :)

Can't put it down!!

The book pulls you into a hackers/crackers mind! no boring bla-bla text that puts you to sleep in 3 minutes! the only reason I gave it 4 stars is that it didn't come with a CD! Most of the books I've read came with the programs they discussed in the book, This was my only let down. I've contacted the authors about some questions and I received a fast and curtious reply. Hats off to you Gents, and I must thank Brian for his reply,about to much security, your one of the reasons I've switched from windows to linux. Try and contact Bill if ya got a question about windows!

High interest beginning reader...

As a retired English teacher I have to say I wasn't that impressed with this Level One reader BUT I fear my standards may be too high for a book like this. I felt the narrative was choppy and disjoined. Although that may have offended by "teacher" sensibilities I also must admit that for a beginning reader who is really into the Star Wars movies this criticism may not be a huge problem. The illustrations and content make this a high interest booklet for a beginning reader hence the child may well feel very comfortable with the storyline, such as it is. It is important to make a youngster comfortable with any initial reading experience so if this subject and book works...USE IT! Hook the child with content then, down the road, worry about literary merit!
