Very Detailed and Precise

The book "DIY BEER BREWING" by Astrid Cook is a good starting point for anyone who is excited about crafting their own beer but is unsure on how to go about it in terms of the process involved. It dives right into the Step-By-Step process with pictorial illustrations including the equipment and where to buy them and also little snippets of advice in between to brew the perfect batch throughout the book. It starts with a simple recipe, then goes on to explain different types of beer and their characteristics. Then it continues on with the basics of Home Brewing, the equipment categories and the description of the techniques involved including the process of sanitation. There are also explanations for different types of glasses for serving beer with pictures of each of them. This was very new to me and I was fascinated with the fact that there were different glasses, but learned a lot. The next section gives you five classic beer recipes that you can make from scratch. Then it gives you the basic ideas for creating your own masterpiece with the addition of different ingredients like coffee, chocolate, nuts, herbs and spices. Finally it suggests books for further reading and a glossary with detailed description of the words used in the book.
This book, even though a little overwhelming for a beginner at first, is a good investment for anyone considering Home Brewing by providing the appropriate amount of information to become knowledgeable and savvy about this topic since most online recipes expect you to brew beer on your own with at least a basic knowledge of brewing. DIY Beer Brewing walks you through the process is is easier to understand. As a beginner myself, I had a lot of trouble understanding directions on web pages about this topic; however, this book had a much more clear and concise way of teaching and I understood a lot quicker. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in making their own beer and wants to learn more about the brewing process.

DIY Beer Brewing by Astrid Cook is a great read & a starting point for a beginner brewer......

In the beginning of the book Astrid Cook touches base on beer brewing & a very detailed step by step process for first time home brewers. I love how much thought she put into this book & how much knowledge she squeezed into it. Considering its only 95 pages long! She also provides a well detailed list of websites for home brewing events, online communities along with where to buy equipment from. My favorite part of this entire book would have to be chapter 2 pages 24-25, Astrid Cook tells us the history behind brewing & home brewing. I'm talking she goes back to 10000 BC which is pretty neat to me & she even added in a timeline showing the dates in which things happened. I learned some things I never knew prior to reading DIY Beer Brewing. She even provides a first time home brewing recipe for beginners. This recipe won't take nearly as long as other recipes! And once you perfect the beginners recipe there are tons more recipes which are more advanced. I love how well Astrid Cook illustrates not only the equipment we need, but also the different ingredients we need such as hops(in cone or pellet form), malt (in grains or extract format) or yeast (dry or liquid).
I definitely think this book would be a great buy for yourself or for someone who is interested in becoming a home brewer. Even if your slightly interested this book will really help with helping you decide if its something you want to pursue or not! Easy to read & Astrid Cook even put a Glossary in the back which begins on page 86-91. The index follows right after which starts on page 92-94!

Monkeys could be making beer with this book!

I received this book for free from Third Voice Marketing in order to test and give my unbiased opinion on. All opinions are my own. First, I'd like to say that I absolutely loved the immediate attention I had for the front cover. I'm not quite sure what it was about it but I was immediately drawn to looking at the photo on the front and I believe the design would be eye-catching on a shelf. Second, I think this book is really well put together. It has tabs on the sides and top of the book so you can quickly go to any selected section using the handy index. I was also impressed with the contents of the book and actually learned a few things about brewing your own beer and malt beverages. As a person who doesn't particularly like beer but someone who LOVES DIY (including sausage making, canning, and homemade saurkraut) I found this book to be incredibly helpful. I was drawn to the instructions as they were simple enough for someone of very low intelligence to understand. This book did all the work except putting a homemade brew in your hands. I did give this book to my brother-in-law and I imagine he intends to pursue actually making a homemade beer. I would say this book is DEFINITELY worth your money, even if you, PERSONALLY, are not a fan of beer. There's always someone in your life who does and wouldn't it be nice to impress them with a homemade beer on a hot summer day? Great book, would recommend to anyone who loves DIYs or anyone interested in making their own beer. Super easy to use!
